Unwrapping the mysteries of happiness
Updated: 3 days ago
How did you go with last week's short exercise about things that make you happy? If you haven't yet had the chance to read the article and complete the exercise, you can find it by clicking here. When you're done, read on to find out more about happiness.
Happiness is that warm, fuzzy feeling you get when things in life are going well. It's like a mental high-five from your brain. It's when you're smiling for no apparent reason, and life just feels good.
Now, what makes one person happy might not do the trick for someone else. For some, it's spending time with loved ones, while others find it in pursuing their passions or achieving personal goals. It's a bit like your own secret recipe for feeling great.
But here's the tricky part: happiness can be a bit of a moving target. What makes you happy today might not work tomorrow, and that's okay. It's because our brains are wired to adapt to good things and bad things over time. So, that new car you were super excited about? After a while, it's just the car you drive. The project you were so enthusiastic about landing? That can also become just routine.
This adaptability is a fascinating aspect of human nature, reminding us that our pursuit of happiness often involves embracing change and finding fresh sources of joy along the way. So that list of happy things you created in the last post? You’re going to keep it handy and keep adding to it every time you find something new, and keep revisiting the old things you haven’t done in a while.
Happiness isn't about avoiding bad stuff either. Sadness, frustration, and stress are all part of the emotional rollercoaster of life. And they can actually make the happy moments even sweeter.
Now, you can do things to boost your happiness. Being grateful for what you have, staying in the present moment through mindfulness, or simply doing things you enjoy can help. It's like giving your happiness a little nudge.
So what's on your happiness agenda for today? Why not revisit that list we made last week? It could spark a few ideas to lift your spirits or make your day even brighter.
