Achieving accomplishments on the path to well-being
Updated: 3 days ago
Accomplishment in PERMA+ Model can also be thought of as achievement, mastery, or competence. It's that feeling of pride and satisfaction that comes from working towards and attaining your goals, mastering a skill or task, and having the self-motivation to see things through.
A sense of accomplishment is a result of working toward and reaching goals, mastering an endeavour, and having the self-motivation to finish what you set out to do, and taking pride in that.
Accomplishment is also closely tied to concepts of perseverance and the passion to reach your goals. However, true well-being emerges when your sense of accomplishment is linked to pursuing goals for internal or intrinsic reasons, or simply for the sake of personal growth and improvement. Studies also suggest that achieving intrinsic goals, such as personal growth and meaningful connections, leads to greater gains in well-being compared to external goals like pursuing financial wealth or fame.
Here are some ways to cultivate a sense of accomplishment:
Set SMART goals - make them specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time bound.
Take time to reflect on your achievements and previous successes.
Look for creative ways to celebrate your achievements, to reinforce that sense of accomplishment.
